Home, Sweet, Home

Meet Julie

After a string of unsuccessful out of home placements with foster homes and a group placement, Julie found herself at Rosemary Children's Services.  At the age of 12, Julie was removed from her mother's care and many attempts were made to find a foster home that could provide the support and love missing in Julie's life.

Despite being bright and motivated, Julie was held back by her struggle with self esteem issues and depression associated with being separated from her birth family. Unable to deal with her frustrations she lashed out at peers and at staff members. When her feelings became too overwhelming, she frequently ran away, only to return in a few days time. At Rosemary Children's Services, she worked closely with her therapist and learned healthier methods to manage her grief and anger. With time, she was able to reflect on past hardships and gain insight into the root of her feelings and how unresolved conflicts in her past affect her current interpersonal relationship with others.

Fortunately, not everything from Julie's past was negative, a former teacher stayed in Julie's life and followed her through her difficult journey. She provided much needed mentorship and emotional support. She involved herself in Julie's treatment, including family therapy, and would visit her at Rosemary Children's Services, as well as, take her on outings when she had a day pass. Ultimately, she came to the decision to become a foster parent and welcomed Julie into her home. However, the foster parent process in Los Angeles County was fraught with delays and difficulties. Things brightened up when she was referred to Rosemary Children's Services Foster Family Agency. Because of the diligent service provided by the agency, she was certified and able to complete the process expediently.

Julie graduated for Rosemary Children's Services Residential Treatment Program and transitioned into the foster home of her teacher. She has continued to receive individual and family therapy from her therapist and ongoing psychiatric support from her psychiatrist at Rosemary Children's Services.

While Julies transition into a the community continues to pose challenges, she receives ongoing support from Rosemary Children's Services Mental Health Department. Day by Day, Julie has been able overcome the hurdles that life presents, but she faces these hurdles with imperturbable strength and life experience.
